Anger is Natural and Organic

The ability to feel anger exists within all of us right from birth. It is one of the 8 primary emotions identified by Robert Plutchik necessary for survival. Anger provides us with the energy needed to mobilize ourselves into action. In the early years of life, anger naturally emerges when we feel fear or hurt. An infant unable to get up and make himself/herself a sandwich when hungry, cries to let the caregiver know they are scared of starvation. The infant’s action of crying hopefully prompts someone to help.

Just as in the infant, anger naturally emerges in adults too with one big difference, adults have a highly developed cognitive process that with and without awareness influences the actions we choose. Understanding and experiencing the choices possible for the expression of anger allows us to live more naturally and organically.
